Wax Museum

Mikayla's class had an assignment to pick famous person or historical person to do a report on.  They picked their person, got a book, read the book, wrote a biography, made a video on their computers/power point presentation, wrote a speech, dressed as their character and became an "exhibit" in the "wax" museum.  Whew!!!

 

Mikayla selected Mary the Mother of God.

 

 

I can honestly say that the kids have learned SOOOO much and with this project specifically, they were learning and had NO idea they were learning because they had so much fun doing!

 

The kids were all nervous about this..... and having to say their speeches.

 

 

 

 

 

I mentioned about the hay..... well, we needed real hay for our authentic Baby Jesus manger!!!

Here she is, in position and ready to go.  On the back of their speeches, they put a "push" button, so once you touched the button, they would come to life to read the speech they had prepared.

 

 

 

 

 

Mikayla was so nervous!!  She knew her speech by heart but read it anyway so she didn't have to look up but every once in a while.

It.was.awesome!!!!!  So many fun assignments this year, a lot of work yes, but insanely fun.  The teacher even says that some things she thought would take a week or two.... turn into a month or two because of the places the kids are taking it and again - not even knowing they're learning but they are learning SOOOOOO much and for our teacher to let them explore and go down a completely different path than where she even thought it would go.

 

After the museum, there was a get together for dinner and a movie!!  Seriously - they went ALL out!  Everyone contributed a small part to make it something seriously special and amazing!!!  We all ate together then the kids went NUTS!!! they were running and playing and well just having an amazing time where they could just let their hair down and play!

 

 

 

I guess there's a movie called Night at the Museum.... (hence the name of our evening), we haven't seen it before but what we say looked like we'd actually enjoy it! 

 

 

We have a really great group of kiddos!!!

Whew - our Saturday Whirlwind

Our Saturday seemed exceptionally busy this week.  We started the day with the final Little Flowers meeting/retreat for the year. 

 

It was so much fun!!!

Then we had a birthday party we went to at painting with a twist.  Seriously fun!

Then we had to stop at Ace Hardware for some hay (that's a whole different story why we needed hay)

At 10:35 on Friday night I received this text from her "Sooooooo I think my water broke"

 

WHAT!!!!!!

 

Turns out she was having her baby!!!! (on Mikayla's 1/2 birthday I might add-just like I have been saying for about the last month or so, that was the day she was going to have her).

 

So actually baby Hailey came Saturday morning at 4:59 am.  So needless to say Katie and Kirsten were up texting LITERALLY most of the night... so Kirsten was VERY tired by Saturday night (not as tired as Katie was though)... I wouldn't trade a minute of it though.

 

so after picking up our hay....we went to see Katie and meet Hailey!  She is such a precious little peanut!!!!  I feel like such a proud auntie and have been showing her picture to everyone that will look.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

ahhhhhh  it was an incredibly busy but oh so awesome day!!!!

Happy Mother's Day!!!

Our Mother's Day celebration started at Mikayla's school.  They invited all the mothers to come and have a brunch with their children!  It was really really really NICE!!!! 

 

I absolutely LOVE that they seem to be setting up a photo booth area for everyone!  Isn't it fun!

To the world you are a mother.... but to your children you're the world!  Isn't that special!!!!  and really puts it into perspective.

 

 

I really had the best Mother's Day so far to date.  Mikayla doesn't like when I say that because she thinks it made all the other ones bad.... when NO they were just as perfect too!

 

When my dad came over we actually went to the cemetery to change the flowers.  It was nice to not be in a hurry or rush.  I still can't believe that she and Leslie have been gone so long (almost 9 1/2 years for my mom and 8 years for Leslie)

 

 

Then Mikayla my table decorator specialist did a fantastic job setting the table for our dinner!

 

 

That  morning we made a snickerdoodle cake!!  OHHHH it's heavenly!!!!  Complete with candles and the Happy Birthday song changed up to say Happy Mother's Day.

 

 

We even got to go for a nice long walk that evening.

 

 

It was a PERFECT day with my family!!!!    I'm blessed beyond measure that Mikayla made me a mom!!!
