A new room!!

Then it was Mikayla's room.

 

 

 

 

 

Then it REALLY became Mikayla's room.  We cleaned, we purged, we put away, we painted....and then.... the magic happened.

 

 

 

 

Look at all these wall angles.... yikes!  This is NOT your regular 4 wall bedroom.

 

 

 

 

woo hoo, it's starting to come together now.

 

 

 

 

 

 

We could start to see all the things that we made, pull the room together.

My absolute favorite part is her bed area..... isn't it fun!!

 

 

The new curtains...she LOVE LOVE LOVES them! She isn't the only one, I do too, she has the best room in the house!!!

Just a few minor things to finish up in there (paint the closet) and it's done!  Next room do over is her play room soon to be crowned "the lounge"........  I cannot wait!!!!!  I'm ready to do it because the visions in my mind keep me up at night!!

Fan Fun.

I love a good tongue twister...fan fun fan fun fan fun.....

well, in my obsession I mean interest in making Mikayla's room insanely awesome, on a blog I follow she did a really fun ceiling fan treatment and I decided I needed to do it too.

Naturally I had already started to dismantle Mikayla's fan before I remembered I needed a "before" picture....and I decided to go ahead and try this on her existing fan because I had planned to buy one anyway if I ended up ruining it.....  so this is what we started with....

 

I am afraid that my love of enhancing and changing things with spray paint comes naturally to her.... I had to sneak in a few coats on my own so that I could do it too.  We started by lightly sanding the fan blades to break the shiny coating.

 

Then we applied three even coats of white paint.

 

I then taped off the areas I wanted to add the stripes and painted the wall color on the opposite side. 

 

Then covered it all with a clear coat of finishing spray.

 

To my great dismay I had to wait 24 hours until I could hang them back up to see how they looked.  I really liked them so far.

 

 

Ah ha!!!!  Not bad!!!! Not bad at all.  Just adding a little character up there too.

 

 

Below is a video of it turned on, it is actually very peaceful to watch it running.  I LOVE it and more importantly so does Mikayla.

We've got pillows baby!

I was finding that after Mikayla picked out her new bedding - I was having a hard time finding ready made pillows for her bed that matched what we wanted to do....so we went ahead and made our own custom pillows.  They match perfectly and really are giving Mikayla a sense of pride in her room....look how much she's making!!!  We had a blast picking out the fabrics.  I am certain it took no less than 2 hours of fun fun fun picking out.  She is sooooo into this project...whew!

 

 

She LOVED sewing them.... she did three sides, then I stuffed and closed the 4th side. 

 

Our collection grew......

 

 

And grew.....

 

Until complete bliss was achieved!

 

 

The anchor pillow in the middle below was made out of a tshirt she had/wore last summer, I can't believe how amazingly well it fits right in!

 

 

She couldn't wait to sleep in her mountain of pillows!

 

Some fun crafting we've been doing

Well the banner below spurred a whole bunch of activity at my house....  It was time to start to redo/decorate Mikayla's room and she picked out a nautical theme with navy blue and pink as the primary colors. 

 

So from that....I went all kinds of pinterest crazy.... *hangs head*.... and I found this banner, I bought it on the spot, it has ALL of the colors I wanted to pull into her room.

 

 

We then decided based on some samples of what we saw out there, that we wanted to make our own accessories/pictures for her room as well.  So the pictures below are what we came up with. We went frame "shopping" in the garage to use up some of what I already have.  Yay!!!

 

 

Then I was able to find this amazing anchor at Hobby Lobby!!!  It was the only one they had and is PERFECT for her room!!! 

 

 

 

 

 Then we had some blank canvas's at the house....and they were converted as well.....

 

 

 

 Perfect trio, wouldn't you say?

 

 

The final product of our labors!! I can't wait to see it all come together!

You guessed it!  Mikayla has BANGS now!!!!   She's been aching to do something different with her hair and going shorter isn't an option (for me)....so we came up with this plan.  She was SO surprised I would do it!  But she loves it and so do I!!! 

 

 

 

However, I'm bumming it made her look older :(

 

sigh...... I still love it though.

Fun with BFF

It was Mikayla's BFFs birthday and they spontaneously invited us over for the girls to play.  The original plan was for them to swim for awhile.  Well there was a lot of lightening and thunder so they didn't actually get to swim

 

 

 

They found a bunch of makeup and proceeded to give us a singing and dance show.  (M was seriously rocking to Shake it off) (ha ha haaaa)
