Umbrella Mishap

Well, what do you think happens when the outside table umbrella pole is too short and the folded up umbrella part is too big? Here is a little history, we put the umbrella through the top of the table and it rests on a brick underneath to make it so that we can easily open and close it and it keeps the brass tips from scratching the table top. Last night Michael was putting it back in the table (we took it out for the tropical storm earlier this week) and the brick wasn't in place yet, so the question becomes... what happens when the brass tipped umbrella hits the top of the table and a fair speed? ? ?
