It was a crafty weekend for sure

I had my quarterly scrap-a-thon weekend with my scrappy group. Here are some of the challenges I did.

This is the "One word title" challenge

This is the "older than 1950s picture" challenge. This is my grandmother, my mom's mom back in the late 1920s.

This layout is the "fabric" challenge. I added burlap underneath the picture mat. I also used paper safe iron on's. It was a lot of fun pulling this one together.

This layout is the "honor someone special layout". I chose my sister, I still really miss her.

This is the "window picture challenge" We needed to make it look like we were seeing the picture through a window. I don't know why but this one seemed to take me a long time. I do love the little tabe I created...

This is the "Large punctuation" challenge. It needed to be over 5 inches to qualify. The "?" is almost 6 inches :) And this is really the biggest phase she's in right now..... everything is "why"

Here is the "opposites" challenge - for a girl, needed to have non tradational girl colors and for a boy non traditional colors. This is what I came up with.

This is the "back to basics" challenge - every single element on this layout has been created by me with nothing but paper... no clips, metal, tricks, store bought anything (well besides the paper)... the oragami frame was a challange in itself!

This is one that I hosted but I just love the picture, it's the "wanted" challenge

Some recent scrappy creations

With my on-line scrappy group, I joined a "Skool of Rockin Design" and there were four assignments. Then the two people with the highest scores from the judges would participate in the "Duel". I was fortunate to be able to go all the way. Here are my four "skool" assignments and duel entries.

1st assignment - layers

2nd assignment - rough it up and distress the paper

3rd assignment - back in time - 1980s pic or older (I'm guessing these were tken in 1982-1983ish). My sister and me....

4th assignment - junk.... had to use at least 2 non scrappy related items, the butterfly is an applique and I used corsage pins - not normal for a layout :)

My final assignment - Altered Art. I had to use three of the four previous assignment techniques. I chose to do a 10x20 canvas and distressed, embelished, and loved the heck out of it. I poured my heart into this project and worked on it for a week and now Michael wants me to make about 6 more similar but different for the restaurant..... YIKES and wow - I usually get a "that's nice" from him LOL. I printed her picture (8x10) on an overhead transparency too. It just looks so neat.

I really am happy how it turned out though.

Such busy times

First and foremost, can you please continue to have my grandmother in your prayers. Her health is rapidly failing.

In the midst of finding time to have some fun with Mikayla, her Uncle Frankie, Aunt Ruthie (were here from California) and her Papa took her to the park. She is totally addicted to park playing lately, she needs it - so off we go, every chance we get.

We took her to the boat for some fishing fun. This was her first time ever net fishing. There is a little girl there that net fishes and catches all kinds of things, so we will start doing the same thing, all we had to put them in after we caught them was a Bud Light styrofoam cooler.... LOL, I need a bucket that will be safe for sea creature viewing. I need to video Mikayla telling us what she caught that day. It goes sort of like this "I caught a little crab, a big crab, a whole lot of shrimp, a snail and a minnow." So she was really sad at the end of the day when we let everyone go back home but the promise of finding them again made her happy.

We had such an awesome day that day. It was after some really big storms that came through (even before the most recent big storms) and the water was almost 2 feet higher than normal. So while we didn't go for a ride, we really enjoyed ourselves anyway.

I absolutely love that she lets me play with her hair!!!! We are currently in the "French Braid" phase. I love her hair!!!

Happy Easter

I hope that you had a blessed Easter and were able to celebrate with all the people you love. If you could please say a prayer for my 99 year old Grandma, she's in the hospital and can use some prayer.

We started our festivities last week by coloring some eggs, it is so much fun to do this. I really do enjoy the process of coloring eggs, we all had a good time.

We went to a festival that was being held in my dad's subdivision, the Easter bunny was there, jumps, cotton candy, ballons, face painting and of course a huge Easter egg hunt.

The Easter bunny delivering her basket was a tremendous success, she was so surprised. She and I were in the kitchen when the doorbell rang and when we opened the door, there was her basket!!! I wish I would have been able to capture the true wonderment on her face, she sure ran out and grabbed it before he could come take it back.

We then went and had an absolutely wonderful celebration. We (the three of us and my dad) went over to my brother-in-laws house. Mikayla had an absolute blast with her cousins. The little stinker and her cousin were dunking their heads in the stream (connected to their pool) and blowing bubbles in it LOL

Much food was prepared!!!

Then a wondeful egg hunt took place :)

My two favorite men!!!

Such special times!!!!!

Momma, we have got to go buy one of these!

We went to see a brand new baby this weekend and his mommy graciously let Mikayla hold him for awhile. She was incredibly fascinated with him and didn't want to take turns holding him. So she was talking to me while holding him, saying "we don't have one of these at home" and with all of the seriousness a 3 year old can muster, she has never been so serious in all of her life, she tells me "Momma, we have got to go buy one of these!"

It was all we could do to not laugh and let her know what she said was SOOOO funny but her request was incredibly heartfelt. She was so serious though and so ready to go to the store and pick one up. If only it were that easy. She really loves Baby Tyler though. She held him, she kissed him, she rubbed him, she sang to him - her ABCs and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. I absolutely adore when she sings that song, it melts my heart.

It was a great visit!!! Although nothing makes my baby look bigger than holding a baby... wow!!! She's gigantic, was she ever that little!!!
